Hi guys
I have a Ironman lift with 30mm coil spacers, the ironman shocks are too short. I can get Monroe shocks but I dont know what lenghts to order front and rear? I need more travel.
From memory stock shockies are 8" stroke. I used Bilsteins with 2" longer stroke than stock with a similar suspension lift.
But because closed length is 2" more (to accommodate longer stroke), I had to move the top mounts to prevent the shockies bottoming out. The alternative to modifying the top mounts is to pack the bump stops down - you loose up travel but gain down travel (if your radius arms, trailing arms and sway bars allow).
Edit: I just re-read you post. With spring spacers you run the risk of coil bind of the springs with stock bump stops. If this happens you will most likely end up with a cracked chassis in the area of the spring perches. So space the bump stops down if necessary to prevent coil bind.
With lowered bump stops, you can lower the upper shockie mounts with stock stroke shockies to gain more down travel.
