Protection from beach driving

What Pedro said. There is still LOTS of salt in/on the dry sand, and lots of salt in the air.

All this reminds me I need to give the vehicles another coat. I used to use fish oil with the following procedure:

Buy 4L tin of "deodorised" fish oil
Park car on plastic painter's dropsheet
remove door trims (at least at the bottom)
Turn on air compressor
Fill degreasing gun (long nozzle type) with fish oil
Spray fish oil into every nook and cranny I could find. Usually took 2L min to do a whole car.

It takes ~ 2-3 weeks for it to dry completely so sand won't stick.

Over here (WA) I have been using lanotec, it seems to work well also.

Looks like I better fire up the Karcher this weekend then.......

I use a corrosion inhibitor called Ensis which is made by shell. I pick it up from a Matilda distributor but it aint cheap. A 20L drum is around $330, but by the time I divvy it up between my old man, father inlaw, brothers and mates it works out ok. Takes between 2-3L to do the underside of the Disco well, and like the others you need to let it dry before you hit the sand.

For future trips, would it be worth getting professional rust-proofing?

IF you want to spend the money. A few good doses of Lanotec heavy duty applied by yourself every 6-8 weeks for a while and it will never rust out. It is always a good idea to throughly rinse the underside of the veh after beach driving even with rust protection applied. Bob

Ok, so we have a trip to fraser planned for the 5th of December. If I apply my lanotec now will it dry sufficiently so the sand won't stick if I do the job this weekend?

Thats right, maybe do it twice as you will probably find little nooks and crannys which you didnt do the first time. The more the better. Should only take a few days to soak in and dry. Bob

Ok cool... I'll hit it tomorrow.

The Bump Shop here in Brisbane use a Valvoline product called TECTYL 506 which does not stay sticky.There are also other TECTYL products,many are available in spray cans.
They do a lot of work for Austral LR,& recon the TECTYL products are the best around.

They covered my car in overspray when Southside had them do some work on the crack in the roof join. ARRRGH.
