My 2004 td5 Disco 2 fuel economy data

Have had my Discovery 2 from new and have kept a record of fuel economy since I bought it.
Would be interested to hear opinion about your fuel economy and what you think of the figures I'm getting.
Vehicle has 255/65/16's, ARB Sahara Bar and is stock other than that.

I have 2000 D2 Td5 auto (what's yours, auto or manual?) and I check my usage every time I fill up with a chart/calculator kept in the car....I average around the 10.5L per 100klms. Exceptions for some when I tow a trailer, rarely, but normal driving figures don't vary much at all, and have not done so for about 6yrs. Tyres are 235/70/16, no roofrack, ARB steel bullbar, standard engine no mods. Sometimes get slightly better on long highway trips, I use the cruise control at 108-110 kph mostly for long trips with bursts up to 125-130 overtaking the many semis and road trains in this area. Best I've got on long highway trip was 9.2lt/100k's.
I notice yours started in the 10's and have risen over time but it's still acceptable for such a vehicle I would have thought. Is yours mostly city driving?
Mine is a combination of both due to distance travelled between both towns I spend time in, but not comparable to actual "city" driving, small towns really.
That's some pretty detailed records you've kept there

    Cheers
    Mick

That's about normal from my experience with our TD5, ours varies from 10l/100 to 12l/100 depending on how heavy the right boot is and I'm not towing the camper.

I get 12.5/100k to 15l/100k towing the camper.

Mine is an 01 TD5 Manual, chipped, 3" exhaust, EGR bypass, turbo tweaked, bullbar and winch, dual batteries, 265/75/16s, roof bars with awning, Hilift jack, pole carrier and shovel.

Last tank was work and back, 150k of towing, returned 10.7l/100.

The last towing tank (1.3t camper)to Dingo Dell and home was 13.8l/100k, that's a very hilly destination, so these economy figures were pretty good.

Your figures seem pretty much the same as mine.

    2004 TD5 Auto with 245 x 75 x 16 tyres.

The vast majority of my driving is city, with lots of stop start traffic.

Budgie ... that pretty much matches my last 6 months of driving - Mixed bag of urban, highway, country, off-road & beach - 2004 Td5 Classic Auto with a dual battery system & 255/70 x 16 tyres - no other mod's.

Best I've had was 9.05L/100km (31mpg) - Worst was 14.18L/100km (19.8mpg) - We live at Stockton Beach, so usually every tank has _some_ beach driving included, and that knocks the economy for a six!

Towed my sons car home 2 weeks ago with a car float ... 2T+ on the tow ball, 4 passengers and the back full of gear, fridge, tools and recovery gear ... and it returned 12.55L/100km (22.35mpg) ... can't complain about that!

Be happy with those figures. I am

    Kev..

Worst I have had is 18.2 l/100km towing a caravan from Hay to Renmark into a headwind. The low fuel light came on at 450k!

6 November 07.......47.5mpg or in the new 5.9L/100

For total distance of 1433 kilometres

Either you drove off a cliff or had a massive tail wind.

If you added a hyclone and a couple of pellets in the tank you could have been making diesel

Its an Auto, Classic Country, no engine mods. Most driving is city based. Tow a Challenge Outback Deluxe when we go camping.
Good to hear the economy is on par with others - always been quite ahppy with it but have noted a steady gradual decline - thought it went the other way after I'd run it in (after 100,000 km) ;-)
Seen a bit of debate on the forums about quality of diesel at the servo. My preference is to run BP diesel - not always possible when out of town. That recent tank refill at 90 litres was BP diesel and returned the best figures since new. Current tank is Ampol, will be interesting to see what it returns on refill.

Pretty normal figures for a TD5

I notice the fuel economy between around 10k & 60k,was better than before & after these times.

Mine usually gets around 9-10l/100k on a run,& around 11-12l/100k around town.

TRS Chip, Intercooler upgrade, 255/70's and around a small town 10l/100 and it doesn't drop much even when towing the camper. Worst is around 12.5l/100 so I am not doing to bad. Just coming up to 143,00kms.
