Don't despair.
Sounds like rest of car will be in very good cond.
So I would spend the coin on good mechanic to sort it out.
I see you are in tassie, give JC a call, I believe he is a master.
Good luck, they are gold when running properly.
Hi all......help!
I have done the second head gasket in 12 months. My Disco only has 160,000km on the clock and was a one owner vehicle. It has always been serviced every 5000 and looked after well.
When the first gasket went I had the injectors replaced as well and thought I would be trouble free for at least 100,000km, that was about 10,000km ago.
This time it appears the liner in no 2 has a small crack in it. My questions are:
-What is the cheapest repair? (must still be reliable)
-Can the liners be replaced?
-Why is the Tacho going crazy when the engine still sounds as if it is running smooth?
-Would replacing the block with a second hand one be feasible considering the rest of the engine is relatively low km?
A bit more info on the engine...it has not over heated, there was no water in the oil but was building up pressure in the header tank.
Thanks in advance Andy
(I think this may be the end of my Landy love affair)

Sorry to hear your predicament Andy...
Was wondering where the beast was. Said to the missus, I think Andy has traded her on a troopy
Let me know if I can help. Mine has been broken since end of May with gearbox problem. Major headache! Not looking forward to laying on the cold concrete wrestling with spanners pulling it all out. Needs new clutch too. I've been thinking the same...I'm OVER working on high maintenance vehicles. Sort of a love/hate relationship now....

Mine had the same problem a couple of years ago with the tacho jumping. It was the pickup wire (white I think)at the back of the alternator. Check the wire and it's connection. Sorry can't help with your other probs though.
I believe you will find the 300tdi is a fully cast block with machined bores.
It doesnt have liners per say?
If you have cracked the casting through to the water jacket in one of the bores then you will be up for a new block unfortuanately.
Definately worth giving Justin a call down on that little island with you... his user name is justinc. He will have the best hooks for prices in tas I would imagine.

Thanks all
I have talked to JC, he is looking at options for replacing the block.
Brian I haven't got rid of the Disco.............yet! I do have the troopy as well though and love it. Seats 11 and is very basic, the room in the back with the seats folded up is huge.
Sorry to hear about yours, if you go out and find your engine missing it wasn't me
Cheers Andy
