    Connected my Center Diff Lock

    I have recently connected my center diff lock using some bits & pieces lying around. It protrudes through the driver side footwell. When the diff lock is engaged, I don't get the indication lamp on the dash. Is this going to be a problem for the ABS?



    Disengaged

    Engaged

    We are talking D2 arent we?

    With engine running: engageing diff lock will show engaged light on dash and while ABS and TC are still enabled.

    With engine off or any restart with diff lock engaged, dash will dsplay engaged light and ABS TC warning. TC and ABS will be disabled and you will now 4wd only with out any electronic aids for traction or braking.

    If your diff lock is engaged but no light, then maybe some connectors are loose, dirty or broken wires. This actually isnt a problem as the computer wont know you have the lock enaged and continue to offer TC and ABS.
    The only catch is you wont have a dash indication for CDL, but that lever poking out of the tunnel is a pretty good clue anyway!

    How did you water proof that?

    I did something similar but did not involve cutting a hole in the floor pan. I used to just reach under the car and pull/push a leaver. Failsafe!

    I was not going to pay big$$$ to retrofit a CDL mechanism with some fancy button on my dash for something I may use a dozen or two/three times a year

    I wonder if my diff lock switch not working has got anything to do with an intermittent gearbox overtemperature light which sometimes comes on from start...bad earthing & all that.

    I have not waterproofed the diff lock It is just a temporaryish perm....solution- More water will get in through the door seals than through a 10mm hole with a rod through it in the floor. I kind of figured that if you are in that deep, maybe you should be in a boat Thats my excuse & I am sticking to it.

    My understanding is that TC is not disabled but diminished. Instead of one wheel being compared to the other 3 with the CDL enabled ( and engine restarted ) then one wheel is only being compared to its opposite number in the other side of the axel

    You know, I cant confirm or deny that.

    Ive never actually done a physical check. Just going by the info from friendly folk at LR mentioned. I never really saw much point engaging the CDL and reducing or disabling the other aids, so for me, if the CDL goes in, the engine is running and all else operating.

    Not having a D2 I wouldn't know what's involved, but I thought of a cheap electric diff lock system could be made with some one with a bit of mech knowledge.
    Using 2 Electric Boot release solenoids. By attaching them to pull in opposing directions. surely it could be simple set up.
    Supply + pos to one to pull to lock, and switch to supply +pos to the opposite side to pull the cable back to unlock?
    or some strong door locking solenoids in the same way

    When I had my D2 I made a set up with an undebody lever & when you turn it off then engage it, it disables TC & ABS.
