HI,
Yes it does work. i run a bit through mine every so often. find some good stuff.
We use Bimrose injestor cleaner or another is Fuel Doctor
Give them a go. You will find it can even drop your running revs for better economy.

Howdy guys . Just wanting to know if diesel injector cleaner really works . I've had the disco come up 2 years and thought it would be a good thing to give it a bit of an internal clean . So does it work ?

I used Morey's on my Disco ( buy in 1 Litre bottles from SuperCheap ). Not specifically an injector cleaner but a general diesel fuel addtive.
It did seem to make a slight difference to performance with fills of diesel from some servos.
When I went to exclusively using BP Ultimate Diesel it didn't seem to make any difference hence I no longer add it.
As for your specific question on cleaning injectors, Moreys claims it "helps keep injectors clean" not sure if it had any effect. How would you tell, other than physically removing and inspecting them ?
It can't drop revs, certainly not in a manual - how can it change discrete gear ratios?
Maybe in an auto, before it locks up - better power at lower revs, therefore less throttle (and hence less slip across the TC? Someone? Anyone?)
Mick - look for Liqui Moly brand.
nope it cant make the engine drop revs for a certain amount of power.
it can make it idle smoother and slower but thats it...
IT might IF your injectors were truely stuffed AND it actually cleaned them properly allow the injector to pattern properly thereby atomising the fuel better allowing a cleaner more efficient burn which would in turn allow a lighter throttle setting which in turn IF coupled to an auto and IF everything else WAS working properly allow the auto to be running at a lower throttle pressure setting which means it would upshift earlier and hang onto taller gears for longer on downshifts as well as potentially the lockup stage of each gear ratio.
but what you need to look at is this..
the opening in injectors are tiny and in a nut shell what these in tank cleaners do is soften the deposits so that they can be shifted on.. The million dollar question is this.
Where does all the cumulated junk go and what potential harm can it do from its new home?

I use the Moreys mentioned above. It has a cetane additive to increase the cetane value of the fuel in the tank. If the fuel in the tank is already of a high quality and high cetane number, no noticable difference will be felt but if the fuel is of lessor quality and the cetane rating is relatively low, the improver can be felt in the acceleration and smoothness of combustion. A word of caution though, I run an EGT gauge and the Moreys stuff when added at prescribed levels into the fuel can, because of the added cetane in the fuel also shows up as an extra 50 degrees or so of temperature at the manifold. This increase varies (25 - 100 degrees C) and can be quite noticable (and alarming if not careful) in any one of the three "H"s - hills, headwinds or heavy loading.
Had my injectors cleaned and pop-pressure reset a few months ago and run moreys every few fills so in another few months will pull a few injectors and see what the general status is.
Cheers,
Phil
Old truckie mate swears by adding a litre of PULP every 2 tanks or so.
I did similar by adding a full tank of Premium once and than draining which left about 5-10 litres in the tank.
Filled with diesel and I must say after initial bleeding and new filters etc the 300 tdi ran really well.
I just find it hard to get head around adding petrol to diesel.
I would probably not do it to our new golf but the Disco, it does seem to like it.
The tow truck operator that towed me back when petrol really cut in and engine refused to go, also said that he often sees truckies put some petrol in their tanks to keep injectors cleaner and give them that nice spray.
Might do it again this week and will let u know outcome, its certainly cheaper.
Injector cleaner won't fix tired injectors and won't do anything if there is an underlying problem. If your injectors are fouling up you need to find out why, overfueling, dribbling injector or your doing short trips and not getting it hot enough. Pat
i understand that you are supposed to change the injectors every 70,000 miles but i reckon mine have been in since day one.
Although it is on the wish list cheapest i found was famous four at 49 quid an injector
Mine lasted 400K,I paid from memory $570 for four including GST and freight from bosch. Pat
