To examine the condition of the turbine, remove the intake pipe, get a mirror and torch and see if you can get any axial movement on the shaft itself. Radial play to a reasonable level is normal, IE as long as the blades haven't been contacting the housing
it is acceptable. ANY axial movement is unacceptable.
It is possible it has reached a point in its life when an overhaul for the core unit is approaching, noises can be as simple as a balancing issue as they can spin at well over 100,000rpm and any degree of wear can and does cause some noise under boost.
The noise on shut down however is unusual, It is worth getting someone with experience to listen to it.
