    LT77 rebuild cost

    Just been quoted $5000 to remove rebuild both LT77 & LT230
    and refit with a new clutch drive in drive out.
    Any thoughts if this is good value please. ( east melb LR specialist)

    Outrageous, considering a secondhand R380 and LT230 would be less than $1500

    My mate Pete has a 97 Disco with a sick 380 in it.
    He's been quoted Five Grand just to reco the 230 and put a good second hand 380 in!

    Have you tried AMV in ringwood they are cheap and do pretty top notch work.

    If you can find someone to remove it, Award Diffs in Sydney might be able to sort out exchange and freight at way less than that. But try AMV first.

    That makes drive in drive out and both rebuilt for 5k look good.

    I have thought about changing to a R380 but it would need some
    sort of rebuild anyway.
    This way i keep the original setup. (and better than when new)

    One of the LR specialist in Queensland were selling brand new crate R380's for $3800 or reco ones for $2500 so $5000 is a bit rich for rebuilding a weaker box.I've heard some really bad stuff with LR box's,apparently someone spent 16,000 grand on a 5 speed auto RR box when they are only $5000 for a ZF factory exchange unit so nothing suprises me now.
