I'll back the no conversion idea if you're on a tight budget.
you can have the 3.5 or the 3.9 v8s with no major dramas and I believe that one of the buick engines will also fit in but since its more or less the 3.5 in disguise theres not a lot of advantage to it.
depending on how much damage you did to the original when you cooked it you could get away quite cheaply with a do over of the heads and the headgaskets.
You just making prices up or what dude? how do you justify a grand for a pull down on a cooked motor?, not sure you realise the hours involvedQuote:

Dont get me wrong i know its going to cost me big bucks either way i go im just thinking in the future 10 years from now ill still be able to buy the bits and rebuild it myself with a gmh 5.0 for less than 1000 dollar easy
I could build a bad as nuts 5.0 for 5000 i coud buy one from Come racing or pavtech for that price
But with the rover V8 ill be bak in the same spot 5000 for a rebuil

Depends how you like you handling and off road prowess....the Rover V8 is one seriously light bit of kit compared to a Holden cast iron V8 - although if you are talking Gen III/IV thats different, but the conversion would be difficult. Mate for $5k-6k you should be able to get some seriously nice porting and polishing, full balance and 4.6 litres....and a fair whack of power. I am guessing but stroker kits are not THAT dear are they...or am I dreaming.

I think you're sums need some work Steve...
The Rover V8 is a good simple thing when they are not rooted. Yours is, unroot it or a s/h change over and you'll be fine.
If you can rebuild a GM motor (not paying someone 5000 to do it) then you can do the same with the Rover. If you can't you'll be greasing up the other way in both cases.
