the fuel pressure regulator is up over the top of the flywheel housing and it can leak down onto the joint of the 2.
a certain cretin I know thats not on this forum, doesnt give a rats about preventative maintenance or vehicle sympathy asked me to have a looknlisten because his car was becoming undrivable due to clutch issues which turned out to be that the vehicle was trying to modify itself to a wet clutch setup by filling the bell housing with dieso.
given hes always had toyotas as company vehciles and never had one for more than about 4-5 weeks Im not surprised. Im not suspecting the rover is going to have a long life, hes had it for 18 months and Im amazed its made it this far.
i thought of a wet clutch......its pretty much what it feels like.....but its not slipping at all.....
i removed the wading plug and it was pretty dry in there.......
it feels like the dampener springs on the clutch plate have gone south......
the clutch has already been replaced at 40,000 due to shudder......
this ones done 80,000 only but its starting to shudder.......
ive got an idea that the real problem is a nut loose behind the wheel.......

im a bit old school when it comes to durability.....the less moving parts and simpler something is.....
the better it is........
or in the case of land rovers.....the easier it is to repair........
and speaking of big nuts.......
they must be making creepers higher these days......
i remember rolling around under land rovers and never had any problems with my stomach getting caught up........
who has pulled out a box and transfer on the floor.......?
is it worth the headache.......or do you have to use a hoist......?
theres no way i can support the weight of a box and transfer all on my own.....even if the weight of it is sitting on a jack....
im open to ideas and suggestions from those who have had experience......

I only did it once, because I had to. You need lots of blocks of wood, a collection of jacks including a trolley jack, and time. You can't balance the thing on a single jack so you need to support it in 3 places, then lower each point a bit at a time with a jack, remove a block, lower another bit. The wood blocks need to be nice and big and square and stable so it doesn't slip off. If you've got a lot of time its perfectly OK, just be careful not to hurry.
you can do it with guide dowels, rope, a single trolly jack and some patients.
its easier to hire a floor crane for a weekend and pull the engine (especially if you dont have aircon) or use it and some crafty slinging to drop the box down.
Before you go too far. Just check the coolant plug between 3 + 4 cylider for a leak / weep.
Mine was leaking here and found its way down to the flywheel giving the exact symptoms you describe. No evidence on the floor though.
A bit of new sealant solved the issue. Clutch is all good now.
