its not stuck in 4wd is it
Whilst on the freeway today, my LT230 started to whine a lot lower. On power, not so obvious on coast.( The oil was recently replaced a couple of months ago and the box is not leaking)
I also had a shudder/wobble like feel from the front end for about 10 metres at 90 kph and then it went away again.
What normally causes the whine on acceleration on a transfer box. Is it bearings or gears?
its not stuck in 4wd is it
Normally it will be bearings which cause the gears to mesh in a way they usually do not. More info?
Has it been whining before now but at a different pitch?
Should add that really bad bearing failure can be more of a rumble than a whine.
I used to get a bit of whine when easing of the accelorater and coasting, but today it was under speed, a lot more noticable, louder.
I suppose there is no test on vehicle that can determine cause?
Can front uni joints cause a whine? I have noticed a very slight vibe from the front end at different times. The front unis were replaced last year.
I also have a rattle at low speed some where around the drivers side like a loose bolt or something but haven't been able to locate it. I first thought it was the gear box breathers rubbing/hitting the body some where, but cable tied them but it didn't stop
The front pinion hasn't worked it's way a little loose has it.
Ive had transmission problems, metal in the auto sump, at the same time it developed a slight vibration at 80kmph and was getting worse,
Thought it was the auto shuddering but after checking the uni-joints found the rear pinion had slight up & down play, undone the rubber uni and found the pinion was a bit loose,
Cleaned the thread & nut, plenty of loctite & re-tensioned.
No more vibration, and yes it was whining when i backed off, but not anymore.
could it be oil pump in trans my doing same thing
