Id agree with Tombie. I think most of the isses with ARB's that you see people moaning about in reality are down to poor fitting.

Mine were fitted by me nearly 6 years ago now, and I have never ever had a single issue.

Poor installation. However as Tombie mentioned, they have recently improved the design.

86mud - if you decide on an ARB, MR Automotive can install for you. You could even check with them they may be able to get it at a slightly better price than you can from ARB ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Was thinking MR Automotive, just a bit out of the way for me (with work commitments, explaining to the wife, and running the kids around)

    Hi Garry,

do you mind me asking where you sourced yours (and who fitted it)? I'm thinking about going down that track soon.

    Frenchie,

I bought mine from Keith from Rovertracks in Colorado in the USA. I think Keith is a poster on AULRO. He delivered within 10 days of receiving my order. I put it in myself using some instructed provided by 101 Ron. Is as simple as pull the axles, pull out diff center, pull out diff sun gears, put in locker centre and put back in (the last is a little fiddly but not hard). As long as you use the bits you pulled out the diff does not have to re-set up with backlashes, and dial gauges as the crown wheel is not removed and everything goes back as it was.

The biggest pain I find is now having to lift both back wheels off the ground to grease the unis on the rear driveshaft rather than just jacking one.

Not a bad idea...I have thought about soft lockers, but I do prefer knowing when a locker is engaged.

I just sourced a set of HD axles and drive flanges. They will hopefully arrive by Friday. So this weekend I can install them and the ARB air compressor locker that I picked up on Saturday. I just need to wait untill next pay for the locker. Hopefully by Easter I will have the rear locker installed.

    Cheers

You do know - it is locked all the time unless turning on full lock on high grip surfaces when it unlocks momentarily (clicks) and then is locked. In an AWD vehicle having the rear locked does not impact on steering or handling.

    Tell me more Garry..

Would it be worth while putting a detroit in the front?

You cannot put a detroit locker (unlocker) in the front of an AWD vehicle - you will have no steering - same as trying to drive with an air locker locked - not much fun.

Detroits need to go in the rear and if you want a locker in the front a part time locker such as an air locker and I understand from others that a TrueTrac limited slip diff will go OK in the front and you will still have steering.

The main advantages of the detroit in the rear are set and forget and the price is about 1/3 of a ARB airlocker and compressor etc. Because I put the detroit in the back I could then afford to buy a airlocker to go in the front - just need to put it in.
