Thread: gurgling and hot coolant

its the head

now the hunt is on to replace the coolant with the CORRECT coolant ...
along with head , gaskets , water pump , hoses , radiator , and other bits along the way ...

there goes Easter away ... again !

na from what Lucus told me it got nowhere near hot enough to crack ... but stranger things have happened and usually does with me ... Mr Murphy and his stuff up fairies .

THe head is leaking oil from the turbo side of the head as well ... the previous owner told me the only oil leak was a rear main seal ... to which after trucking it over from QLD there is no rear main leak ... it was the gasket at the turbo side !! So the head could have well been on its way out back then .

Just been pricing up heads ... a good second hand one goes from around $500 to a fully refurbished with new everything ready to bolt on for $900 or the new model heads that provide more cooling for around $13-$1500

Just hoping its the gasket !
The previous owner told me the water pump , timing cover and radiator were all brand new ex UK 3 years ago ... water pump it shot , radiator is ok but requires a good rod out ... all hoses are due anyway so may as well do them whilst its all apart as with the dead viscous fan .
for the price of the viscous I wouldnt mind getting some opinions on would twin thermo fans work better ? on a petrol yes ... diesel i dunno know .

I guess my next thing is to find out "the best coolant to run " in a 300tdi as there wouldnt be less than 10 different ones in mine I recon going by the other band aided and lacky band things that held this L/R110 together
