look at turners engineering in the uk or Rwhitehouse and son (colin.whitehouse3@btinternet.com)
Uk prices can be comparable obviously dependent upon freight, i would get them to get quotes via fed ex and dhl

    That price is including freight

we can supply new, outright at £ 725,
carriage would be approx £ 250,

Agreed about shopping online etc, but be aware that unless there is a representative of the company here in OZ, that IF in the event of any warranty issues you will have the devil of a time getting anything sorted

Not that it is likely to happen with Turners or Ashcrofts due to their high quality of workmanship, but the warning is still worth mentioning. I would sooner deal with someone locally in the event of a claim.

I would prefer to keep my money and if it dies ill buy another one
and its almost still cheaper than here lol

Ashcroft Transmissions is probably the biggest re-conditioner in the world for LR transmissions and transfer cases

If you are going to all this trouble and have the $ make sure you are get one with cross drilled input gears (that did not come out until part way through the D1 update from memory) and which will also require a matching longer coupling shaft to your gear box. If it were my T case I would be replacing the double cross pin with a single cross pin (Jack McNamara in Melbourne makes them) plus I would be putting in a permanent fix to intermediate shaft leak. If you can get that all done in a proper reco box for $2,500 including labour, that would be good deal.

On the other end of the $ spectrum $400 - $700 should get you a second hand one from a private sale that is in good nick and that to be on the safe side you would still replace bearings.

Not really a 4x4 just a car for towing a boat and getting to work

The only reason i am even considering buying from overseas is my mechanic doesn't look like hes going to fix my car hes had it a week and not looked at it even though it was booked in

So i am back to buying my own parts and fixing it myself and if i have to fix it myself ill do it all at once its not a matter of having money

its the opposite i don't have money and i cant afford to do this again in 12 months so i have to do it right first time
When the closest City is almost 350k away you don't have the option of calling a tow truck for 75 bucks it is big money if you in the middle of no where

So i have an imaginary figure in my head that's not really imaginary If i buy a good low k second hand Engine it will cost $2000 roughly
Transfer case is around $1500 again for a good low k one

So that's $3500 to just band-aid fix it

So now i have another set of numbers to deal with

    New or Reco

If my block is damaged Repco want $4600 +1200 for a motor

Another place said they would do mine for 3000 ish if it wasn't damaged "beyond repair"

    So again UK
    1100AU for heads Stage 1
Same price just under 1000AUS for a standard reco bottom 3.5
    $400 postage
    Transfer case 1600

    So that's
    1600
    1100
    1000
    400
That 4100 for a full reco motor and reco transfer case thats about 600 more than second hand

If some kind supplier here would do me that price ill buy from them but that's not going to happen

Re. the DHL/FedEx costs... if the UK supplier can arrange the items as a "part shipment" it means they get a tracking number for the whole container, not necessarily the specific part...but the cost reduction is enormous. I bought some stuff recently ...weighed 4kg and got hit with a $90 freight bill... a week later, from a smart supplier, I got a viscous coupling + 2 bushes + other bits anbd pieces...about 6kg and the freight (4 days from UK) was... $34!
    It's worth asking!

    cheers

$4100?? Don't forget the horrendous duty on this stuff. I had a customer imported his own 300Tdi for less than 2K, got a $900 duty bill
