Up at Corowa for the Military Swim in at the Caravan Park we always stay at. Set up camp with friends and told them to park their car at one end or else someone will pull in right next to us. He did, but said no one would come that close would they? Well, just a couple of hours later, despite there being a spare acre of grass, a van pulled in within 2’ if where he’d parked the D4. Had he not parked it there they would be camped in our site I’m sure... It gets pretty packed by the end of the week - that’s fine as we’re all here for the same reason but there’s absolute no need this early in the week.

Go to my favourite kingfish spot and anchor up. Within 1/2 hour another boat turns up and the skipper has his head buried in his plotter/sounder combo. He and his fishing buddy then have around ten goes at setting their anchor. On the 11th attempt they tie off and when the slack is taken up and the boat settles on its mooring he is no more than 2 metres from the side of my boat where I have 2 rods set. He then comes out from under the canopy and gives me the "She'll be right mate" look and proceeds to start rigging up.

By this stage my rod in the flat holder is almost rubbing on the side of his boat. I then calmly point out that he may want to think of moving as you require a bit of room when one of the metre plus fish decides to take a bait. He does not agree ignores me as if I am not there and starts to drop baits over the side using rods and gear more suited to catching bream. Next minute I'm on and off goes my kingie straight under his boat and when the line rubs on his keel it's all over.

I then got a bit more vocal at which time he starts yelling and screaming. I have fished this spot a hundred times and while being on the spot is good, the reef they inhabit is quite large and being 20 or 30 metres away you will still catch fish.

As I already had a nice fish in the esky I tried to pull my anchor only to find his was tangled with mine. I was sorely tempted to cut his off seeing as he was making no attempt to help. I finally just put the ball on and drove away at which time my anchor came free.

I am happy to fish in close and give tips and hints to those who, as was the case with this bloke, had limited fishing knowledge but there has to be a bit of common decency and that in my book means not dropping an anchor so close as your boat is on top of the other one. I would like to say which ethnic group they were from but morons are morons no matter where they come from.
