    Houston we have a problem

My 115hp Suzuki 4 stroke was about due for its 300hr service so i put it into the workshop to have it done.
Part of this service required that the oil in the gearnox be drained and be filled with new oil.
My problem is that after the engines first run after this service (about 150 miles at 4000rpm) I found oil seeping out of the bottom plug on the gearbox.
The oil is an off white color which to me tells me it is contaminated with seawater and I am concerned about any damage that may have been done to my gearbox due to the dilution of the oil and the saltwater corrosion.
I will be taking the boat back to the workshop today to get the oil replaced and the plug fixed/fitted correctly But I am concerned that the damage may already have been done by 7 to 8 hrs steaming at 20kts with water in the gearbox.

Damn, that’s a bugger. Guessing one of the seals/gaskets has let go.
If it’s flushed out soon enough though, I don’t think you’ll have to many problems with it later. Think of how many times we’ve all driven though water and it’s been a while before oil replacement has taken place, with very few side effects.

I haven't taken the plug out yet as I am taking it back this morning but I am pretty certain the it hasnt been tightened properly or the old seal/washer was reused or worse is missing that has caused this problem.
I have an extended warranty on the engine But I doubt very much that it will cover faulty workmanship.
Before this last service i had no issues whatsoever with the gearbox Hopefully a simple drain, flush and refill is all that is needed.
This engine has only done 300hrs and I intend to keep it for a few years and I dont want something like this biting me on the arse at a later date.

All sorted, The problem was a distorted plug washer (the old one had been reused).
The leg was drained, flushed and new oil added also new washers were used
Also as I am here for another couple of weeks the oil will be drained, flushed and renewed again in a week or so Free of charge just to make sure ALL the water has been removed from the gearbox.
Although it was a small mistake to fit the old washers instead of using new ones that caused this problem I cannot fault the service I have been provided here at King ash bay, Good old fashioned service and 2/3 of the price I paid in Perth for the same work.
I am just glad that I check Everything on the boat before I head out each day, Something as simple as a leaky plug can turn into a nightmare 80 miles out from the boatramp.

Good to see it's an easy fix and they have sorted it out for you nice and quickly.
I've always found small towns to be good on the service side of things.
