    Carrum- Patterson Lakes April tips

My fishing Port Philip bay is sad. For non selfish reason I would love some tips and suggestions. I know bite size snapper all year round a little north as a fall back. Happy to PM reason for my asking for your secret spots. Mine are well known normally 20km off shore from Port fairy and a bit far for the objective for a trip or two. Thanks in advance

There is a serious point to this thread, which may be revealed, but is it possible that folk may actually answer the question? REAL answers please.

We used to get most of our schnapper out of Mornington and Rosebud, thats where our boats were mored. But that was over 30 years ago now. Mostly off rosebud 40+ years ago, longlining, before scallop dredgers destroyed the bay and well before angling became so popular.

Chatted with the targeted Fisher. We both agreed our time in Port Phillip has had the cool club mentioned tee shirts awarded

On the serious side. Collecting names of people who know about MATES fishing day type event On a smaller scale than this one by "Yooralla and Future Fish Foundation 2017 event" who might like to help.

Have done a fish survey there. Had the boat moored five feet from the back door of the unit we rented for a few days.

Not much at all in the lakes themselves. We were using licensed nets of various types.

Caught and released thousands of tiny fish of many species from a small weed bed next to the boat ramp.

The good news............. try the Patterson river itself up where it emerges from under the freeway (it's called Dandenong Ck further upstream from there). This where fresh water meets the estuary.

We were using a licensed net at night from the boat with plenty of onlookers who knew what we were doing. (Had signs out.......... not SOP)

Caught plenty of bream and maybe estuary perch from memory. I know mulloway get up to there, dunno time of the year. Dandenong Ck needs to be flowing........ that's the attractant.

The better news........... you don't need a boat. From memory there are walking tracks either side (that would be suitable for wheelchair access).

Probably the access from the north side might be easiest. Would need a recce beforehand to ensure things go smoothly.

I'll have a think about some of the other thousands of places I've been that may be of interest.

Wanna catch some really big carp for example?

    cheers, DL
