Yep. 2017. I got shot out and got a stash of drag washers as backup, which I still have, as I have no bloody idea of their whereabouts!

I saw on TV last night Alvey are advertising their reels... It's as if nothing untoward is happening behind the scenes.

I have an old alvey sidecast in the shed somewhere that I have kept purely for nostalgic reasons.
Personally I much prefer to use eggbeaters and overhead reels because I consider them to be a far superior option to an alvey and they are also easier on the pocket to buy.
When I was a sprat everyone had at least one alvey reel because the eggbeaters on the market at that time were too expensive and unreliable, Overhead reels were insanely expensive back then as well.
All that changed when the Jap fishing gear manufacturer's started to mass produce decent reliable and importantly Affordable gear which made the non user friendly alvey reels dissapear from the vast majority of fisherfolks tackle boxes.

It IS a shame that alvey isn't dooing so well But if they cannot produce the reels that most fishers want at a competitive price I don't hold much hope for the survival of the company.

    Alvey reels not 'User Friendly'???

I suppose some may struggle with the concept!

Get some sand and saltwater in a spinning or worse still, an overhead type reel and then try and clean them. It takes a lot of work and careful work, with a decent overhead.
An Alvey is a hose clean and reel grease, if needed.

Problem with Alvey is they are made too good……like the never break or wear out.

I haven’t been across recent current price ing but I believe they are quite expensive these day.

Perfect reel for light gear angling……like bagging 50 whiting in a short session.

You do know that handles on eggbeaters can be changed over so that they are either left or right handed
