Happy Hour / Latest Favourites / What's In Your Hand Now?

My inspiration for this is my girlfriends Nan and Pop. Also I have a drink in my hand. They would daily in the evening have "happy hour". Both lived past 90, one still alive today. This happy hour is not about having a lot of drinks, but something nice at the end of the day. We don't do it everyday, but SWMBO and I are trying to keep the tradition.

So I thought we could have a thread for those browsing the forums with a drink in hand. A place to share you latest taste whether it be home made or just something different! Worst case, this thread will be me posting all the different drinks I make.

    Today's happy hour for us:

I've tried a few variations, but tonight I've "saved" the recipe for my best yet espresso martini.

    1 shot espresso
    1 shot vodka
    1 shot kahlua
1/2 shot white creme de cacao
    Shake with ice
Drink chocolate sprinkle or coffee bean garnish

It seems Lillet Blanc like a dry vermouth?

I have a sweet vermouth. Might give The Vespa a go with that next happy hour.

I think it's closer to sweet vermouth than dry.
It's golden and fairly bitter, but I like it

Good on you Muppet. Personally I detest the attitude that you're not male unless you drink beer and lots of it, so I wouldn't consider someone "girly" just because they're not drinking a slab of VB every night.

I'm not a drinker any more, but one of my favourites was Singapore Airlines' signature Singapore Sling that they served either on board or in the lounges. No idea what was in it, but it was nice.

I definitely drank a few Singapore Sling's when I was in Singapore. I also remember them being quite tasty!

Today's happy hour for me is a Whiskey Mac. (I earned it today - just did an afternoon of work on the Disco. )

    From Wikipedia:
A Whisky Macdonald more commonly known under the shortened name Whisky Mac is a cocktail made up of whisky and ginger wine. The whisky is expected to be a Scotch whisky, usually a blended type. The ginger wine should be green ginger wine. Recipes vary from those having equal parts of each ingredient to those that use a ratio of 3 to 2 of whisky to wine.
I did 50/50 Johnny Walker and Stones.

It tastes as you would expect...flavours of ginger and scotch. The stones is very sweet, which compliments the scotch nicely. Good for sipping this one.

Muppet - I'm saving the Vespa for another night. Perhaps after a s#@$ day of work being that it contains over 4 shots of booze in 1 drinks.

No, I'm not a particularly heavy drinker by any means.
I can handle my alcohol but I don't really see the point of drinking to excess
One thing drinking the Blue Bayou has taught me: Add the lemonade AFTER you shake it

Wow, Whisky Mac. That brings back memories. In my first ever job, we used to go to the pub that was 50m away from the office every lunchtime. One of my colleagues used to drink Whisky Mac, and I've not heard of anyone else drinking it since.

And if you want a further nugget of advice, never add anything carbonated to a cream based drink. Someone decided that Baileys and lemonade would be a good idea. Trying to drink something that resembles baby vomit was not high on my list of life experiences.

Always tastes nicer when someone else makes it for you, especially if that someone just happens to be one of the Singapore Airlines hosties who were almost universally....ahem....easy on the eye.
