Well I have finished my first keg.:D Of water.:p Cold bubbly water has been a treat over the Christmas break.
Now a question in regard to the other, more important keg, in the system.:angel: I'm getting a glass of froth on the first pour of the day, subsequent glasses, even with 30minute intervals, are good with a little satisfying head that quickly resolves.
Temp of the keg is approx 2C and running 12psi. I'm wondering if the length of "warm" beer line inside the tower is an issue or is there something else that I should be looking at tweaking? i.e. temp or pressure.
At this stage I just sip a bit of froth off the first glass, wait a minute, and fill.:angel:

Hi Ron,
Your temp and pressure is fine - this equates to ~2.7 Volumes of CO2 dissolved.
You can either chill your lines/tower to the tap or enjoy froth in the first glass! Your subsequent well poured glasses indicate your line diameter and length is OK.

I havent had any experience with those kegarators,suggest sending a PM to Beefy to see how his goes.Warm beer will froth so I guess cooloing the tower somehow will help.
I freeze my pint glasses,nothing like the icecream headache you get from the first slurp,just had a ripper;););););) First homebrew in over a week as we were in Albany,bloody nice too!!!!
Was drinking Boags Premium Lager down there,love it,would like to brew it.
Couldnt get the two can mixes Ive been buying(Muntons/Woodfordes) so Ive bought 4 cans of Thomas Coopers to try as a 2 can with no sugar,2xAustralian Bitter,2xIndia Pale Ale.
Works out pretty similar in cost,see how the quality is.

Was bought a keg set up for Christmas, now just have to set up and get brewing again. But while down at the local home brew shop I came across a complete kegerator system brand new fridge and all for no more than the cost of a setup with a 2nd hand fridge. The interesting thing about it is it had a line running from inside the fridge to the tower to keep it chilled as well, probably a similar set up to how the pubs run.
I have been doing a bit of research on the net at it appears that I am not alone...:p The two options, that are not exclusive, are; use a length of 1/2" copper water pipe to sleeve each beer line, and air cool the font with a fan inside a jiffy box and flexible conduit placed up the centre of the tower.
Another common "issue" that I have is that the displayed temp on the kegerator is not close (approx reading 5 degrees too cool) to the actual temp of the contents of the keg... I need to relocate the temp sensor. (And I was doubting my thermocouple and Fluke meter for its higher temp reading...:angel:)
Commercial fonts can be flooded with glycol and/or the snake has a glycol line to keep the run cool.

Although as of this week I am now working at the new Fiona Stanley Hospital, no patients till October. Strange being in a big hospital campus with not many people around.
I'm a brewer, I haven't brewed since the 16/12/13. But I did keg it tonight.:BigThumb:
It was a Coopers Dark Ale, tomorrow night I will be starting another Little Creature Pale Ale replica, two cans and added hops.
I haven't finished my first keg yet but when I do I will look into some cooling mods for the font.

Gday Ron, I have been home brewing for 15 years or so and I run 3 50lt brewery kegs in my system.
When I first started out I was carbonating my kegs using a CO2 cylinder. It can be very hit and miss, either too gassy (foamy beer) or flat. It is hard to find the perfect balance.
What I do now is to naturally carbonate the beer in the keg, just like a big 50 liter stubby! The formula for keg carbonation is to add 4 grams of sugar per liter, so for me I just drop 200 g of sugar into the keg and then fill, seal and then shake it a bit to stir things up.
This method requires the temperature to be in the range to allow a secondary fermentation (16+)
I am sold on this method now, perfect carbonation levels every time and saving the hassle and cost of force carbonation.
