    Parts - Purchase from?

    Hi all,
Thought I'd start a new thread on the purchase of both spare parts and service items for our D3, D4 & RRS.

With more and more of us having these vehicles no longer under warranty we will no doubt be doing more home servicing and repairs.

Or you may be finding your independant mechanic who of course uses genuine parts for your work has to pass on the inflated price that LR Australia charges because they can.
You can't go crook on your mechanic for that.

Anyway I'm now turning to purchasing parts in the UK and getting them shipped out. Keep the value under $1000 so you don't pay GST / import tax on the items.

I've looked at a few sites and these two are my pick for range of parts:
Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. - Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.
Land Rover Parts and Spares Direct

Also but not quite the range:
Advanced Factors for Quality Car Parts online

I'll give you an example, my handbrake actuator is a bit suss and I'll be replacing it. The genuine part LR019223 is approx $1400 here in Aus. I can purchase the exact genuine part from Island 4x4 for 350 pound - thats approx $630!

Yes shipping is extra but I'm also getting a lower steering column, 3 x service kits (details below), 5 wiper blades, Brake light switch and Rear handbrake shoes and associated hardware all delivered for $1200.

    Parts total = $930 Shipping $270.
I'm not importing the discs as they are both too heavy but also reasonably priced here.

My mechanic is happy to use my supplied parts.

    The service kit comprises of:
    Britpart
Air, Oil, Fuel and Pollen filter and Sump drain plug.
    All for 16.66 pound. ($30)
    OEM
    All for 35 pound. ($63)
    Genuine
    All for 90 pound ($162)

This may not be worth it for all of you but I feel It's worth doing your homework and making your own decision on what is best for you.

    Best wishes shopping guys.

Rich, do you know they calculate the GST on cost plus shipping? So you pile of parts at $1200 will incur GST.

There is also the option of using independent importers like Karcraft sometimes they are surprisingly close to the UK prices and it is either a drive to Silverwater or they will ship overnight.

Reading up on it, it's declared / accessed value of "Goods" not postage.

Only the goods are valued until the $1000 limit but freight included once goods value exceeds $1000. Note that the exchange rate when the delivery hits customs is used, not what was charged at the time of purchase.

I've had good experiences with Duckworths
Duckworth Parts - Genuine Land Rover - Range Rover - Jaguar - Isuzu Parts and Accessories

    and LR Centre
Land Rover Spares, Range Rover Parts & Accessories | LR Parts

Duckworths in particular have been excellent to deal with. Had something go missing in the post once and was replaced without question. Also a faulty item (not their fault, came as packaged from Land Rover) replaced without question - even paid return postage. Able to source some obscure bits of trim for the D3 easily. Highly recommended.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Great thread, as a new owner to LR I'm looking out for places to buy parts from. I recently brought some parts from
    L. R. Series Ltd - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units

I've used Famous Four before for an air compressor, rubber door seals & a cloth seat base cover. (Series 2 Disco) Easy to deal with and no problems.

I've also used Famous Four, and LRseries - no problems with either. Genuine parts a fraction of the price you'd pay here.

+1 for Duckworths Lee Graves there a fast and efficient in responding ( better than local LR parts dept ) and they ship via UPS Monday and you have the item Thursday. As a plus they open Saturday morning UK time which is handy to finalise your order if started the week before.
Only item I have not ordered was a replacement head unit for radio / nav as apparently LR recycle the old part therefore charge a refundable deposit which with our return shipping to UK would eradicate any savings.

I Used LR direct for my lower control arms - 4 working days to get the bits here and freight calculated on the website.
