Key items for servicing

As we've just rolled over 85,000km in 3.5 years here's the quote to have the F&R diffs done plus transfer case.

• Transfer Case Oil - $170.42
• Front Diff Oil - $146.60
• Rear diff Oil - $146.60
• Labour - $216
• GST - $67.96

BTW LR reckons these only need to be changed at 260,000km or 10 years.[bighmmm]

Add rear disc pads, hopefully rotors are within spec, plus an EAS compressor that is acting kind of weird at times and the credit card may take a beating. This is a milestone service for our D4 so I'm hoping to not have to repeat it over the next 3 years of ownership.

Given we have towed either an Ultimate or AOR Q+ for 90% of the distance travelled I reckon that's pretty cheap insurance. If it was anything else I would be on my second or third set of suspension by now.

I remain totally happy with the performance and reliability of the car thus far. Servicing is for me at least and given our high duty cycle relatively low cost insurance

Don't forget to replace the plastic coolant outlet LR73372 before it splits/leaks, at the same time check top hose LR095544 is not wearing where the engine cover crosses it.Earlier 3.0lts blowing smoke on acceleration update oil drain to LR087351 on 2nd turbo.

Mine just fell apart at 52K. Never used without releasing. Stealer has ordered a new electronic module.
I had told them about 2 weeks before it wasn't operating properly....sometimes not holding the vehicle when applied, but the service manager didn't seem concerned. "We'll check it when you bring it in". :)
Horrid screeching came from it when the RAC was checking it.
I reckon it was constantly wearing as we drove and as far as I'm aware it's never been adjusted.
A lesson learned there.

My car has just got to 130 000km, been a dream run really serviced it lovingly, auto box oil changed @ 50K and again at 100K, diff, transfer and front diff oils at 80k, engine oil every 13k, only just done front brake pads and rotors, rears done at 80k, brake fluid every 2 years, Alloy coolant inlet manifold, some "1's" and "0's" manipulated in the ecu to solve the EGR question and release some more enthusiasm when ever I feel the need. I realise some of this work is not as per service schedule but due vehicle age and a planned extended caravan trip want to include some additional work to give it a new lease on life.
So the request to the dealer is

1. 130,000km “A” schedule service
2. As per 7 year service schedule – Front and Rear Camshaft belts, HP Fuel Pump belt(s) and ancillary drive belt.
3. Engine coolant pump, engine coolant and hoses. The intent here is to replace flexible hoses that are in contact with engine coolant and are accessible with body off that are otherwise not able to be changed.
4. Alternator - plenty of info on the forum about that
5. Inlet manifolds – Left hand and Right hand, as above
6. Flexible brake hoses (as per 7 year schedule) and brake fluid change. These very vital components have a life and are sooooooo overlooked by most people
7. Front and Rear Air Spring/damper assembly
8. Rear brake disc rotors and pads.

Any other suggestions for service items that are best accessed with body off would be appreciated.

Have a very close look see at turbo items and mechanisms while you can access them.

Remove EGR coolant system and plumbing if they are disabled.

?Pollen/odour filter, how often, how to do it etc. Im starting to do some servicing myself so going to this sticky.

open the lower glove box, its sitting behind a cover at the top right from memory, slide out slide in, very easy

So coming up on a service next month 6.5 years about 118k

Here's my list:

Engine Oil & Filter
Coolant outlet/junction at top of engine
Coolant

Diff Fluid front and rear
Brake Fluid
Partial flush of the ZF8 transmission (done previously at 65k 3.5 years ago)

Transfer case fluid (done at around 100k so not this time)
Belts I might do next time in 6 months

Also need Anti roll bar bushes and/or linkage bushes I think - bit of a rattle but LCA bushes done only 6 months ago

Anything else I should be thinking about ?
