    Anchor PUMA with 2.4 Engine

    This from Rick Fischer...
Puma Tcdi 2.4 - releasing serpentine belt tensioner Information on releasing the tensioner is not available in WS manual per se......and couldn't find anything in the deffie pages here.

It is sort of accepted that you have "the knowledge", and of course once one of the blokes in the shop shows you where/how, you too will have "the knowledge"

To release the tensioner there is a 3/8'' drive recess at the centre of tensioner pulley. 3/8 drive extension bar through the fan blades with a long socket wrench, and surely your uncle's name will be Bob

    Cheers

    Puma 2.4 belt change

Following on from Pedros message, I had already decided to tackle the belt change and here's how I did it:

    Puma auxiliary belt change.

My 2010 Puma 110 now has about 135K on it and I thought it was about time I tackled the belt change job despite being told not to bother until it showed signs of wear.
Rather now than trying besides the road especially as I hadn't done it before.

I couldn't find a great deal of info on the web or the Puma CD ROM except for comments about it being easy??.

    So here goes:

First off remove the fan cover and then the small cover over the belt pulley on the aircon compressor.

Then as some say it's not necessary remove the fan I thought I'd try it their way first and it was much harder I can tell you, so take a few minutes more to get the fan off.

Eventually after much sodding about I managed to put the belt back on to give the belt tension to help hold the fan pulley unit from moving while trying to remove it, then with an 1.7/16" AF open ended spanner (bit sloppy that size but it did it) I gave it a couple of clouts to the left (right handed thread not like 300 Tdi's) and it came loose.

Easy then to unwind fan and all is laid bare before you.

Get a 3/8" square extension to fit into the hole on the end of the tensioner (or an 1/2 - 3/8 reducer) and hold the tensioner down hard to the right with your socket wrench and remove belt from the aircon pulley.

I had the 3/8 reducer then a long 1/2" drive bar with an open ended spanner on the end to give the Cook (my assistant) extra leverage.
Undo the centre bolt which holds the tensioner onto the engine block a few turns (this gives you more clearance to remove the belt from behind it) and take belt off all the pulleys.
Make a diagram or take a pic of how it goes before removing and you're laughing.(I fiddled around for ages and cursed a bit, well more than a bit actually, trying to do this before I decided to remove the fan).

Replace with new belt on to tensioner first but leave it off the aircon pulley, tighten the tensioner centre bolt and then while you hold down the tensioner with your right arm (or your assistant does) refit the belt correctly around all the pulleys.
Test run the vehicle and if all's well, replace fan cover and aircon pulley cover and the job is done.

Believe me taking the fan off makes this job a doddle.

Hope this helps a few people.
