Where to buy a multimeter ?
Most of us will only have need for an inexpensive multimeter for anything we need to do as far as car electrics is concerned.
One of the better sources here in Australia is Jaycar, who offer a plethora of options:

A new multimeter can be bought for as little as $5 Mini Digital Multimeter - Jaycar Electronics
Even this auto-ranging meter is only $20

Good idea Vlad.
Just a couple of suggestions for those contemplating buying a digital multi meter.
If your intended use is for some occasional electrical work on your vehicle and/or camper trailer/caravan, then a cheap multi meter will meet all your likely needs.
If you see yourself doing quite a bit of auto electrical work then look at spending around the $40 mark or a bit more and see if you can get one with a clamp for measuring high currents.
If you go for a clamp type meter, make sure the clamp can be use on DC circuits. Many clamps are designed for use on AC circuits only.
A word of warning, the leads supplied with most cheap digital multi meters are NOT suitable for working on 240vac.
One more suggestion, try to get a multi meter that shuts down automatically after a given time. I tend to spend a considerable amount of money on replacement batteries because I continually forget to turn the meter off after I have used it. Something to do with age I think
