Child restraint anchor points Kid/baby seats, capsule, booster crab/creb bar

Child Restraint ADR .pdf in attached files at bottom of post.

Defender don't come with anchor points fitted as standard. The two most common solutions are a 'crab' bar that runs horizontally behind the second row of seats and can fit three restraints, or a vertical bar that is anchored to the floor, can fold down, and will attach only on restraint.

Most child restraint places don't have experience with Defenders, and don't know the difference between models. On the 130 the back wall is thin aluminium sheet, not strong enough to take any weight. One place suggested bracing blocks and bolts through this - like putting a jam tin lid on aluminium foil and expecting it to carry weight.

In NSW Child restraint installations are administered for the RTA by Mobility Engineering in Hornsby. They have an installation database (with pictures) of unusual installations, including 110 Defenders.

Or contact the restraint fitters below, they've all had some experience with Defenders.

In NSW all non-standard restraint anchor points need engineer approval, this isn't necessarily the case in other states.

Attached are a description and a woeful diagram of the bar that I made for my 130. Although it was made with the assistance of an approved automotive engineer, it was not engineer approved - the gap between the seat and the rear bulkhead was too small.

This isn't an approved restraint, it is probably a good idea to pass it by your local auto engineer.

USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
