    Hi Eric Isuzu do at a tad over $400 for the set of 4, I was hoping to avoid some of this cost. Unfortunately just not a bottomless pit of funds let face it the motor will go well without them, it's just the motors apart the block has the machined faces in place for them to be fitted and I have turbo and turbo rebuild kit. Thought it would be a good excercise and possibly be of interest to other members as there has been dicussion on the forum about converting non turbo engines to a turbo variant.

    Oil Squirters

    Wondering what everyone thoughts were on the use of non Isuzu squirters. At the truck wreckers the other day looking for BD1 engines there were a couple of Mazda motors with the sumps off they had oil squirters fitted to them. The dimensions of them seem no bigger than Isuzu ones. Thought why couldn't I use these only thing I could think of was the release pressure of the ball check valve in the sercuring bolt so proberly need to know the release pressure of the Isuzu check valve for a comparision and then find other types that closely match it. So wondered how I could find out and are there likely to be any other considerations/difference, any thoughts out there appriciated.

    Think I recall reading somewhere that the pump in the turbo motor is a different type. Maybe to cope with the extra volume required by the squirters?

    Just a thought....be a bugger to fit them and find you had oil pressure issues.

    Yes had heard that as well but thought it was the earlier motors that were different perhaps others can shed soom light on that one. Perhaps there is a way of telling the difference if there is one. My 4BD1( parts book which refers to motor 1987 on, lists the pump asssembly part number the same for both N/A and Turbo motors, (Part number 513100-1372) which would indicate it is the same pump on the later models.

    My 86 model factory turbo truck engine had the trocoid style pump(whatever it's called?) but I converted it to the gear pump style,as per the truck parts manual.
    No problems with oil pressure when I run mine.
    The stage 1 engine has the same gear pump fitted but with a different suction pipe.
    One of my suirter holding bolts had a broken spring so I replaced them all, something to consider when using 2nd hand bits.
    If you end up using squirters out of something else make sure the oil is directed to the same point,usually the centre of the piston.Caterpillar have special tools to check this on their engines while the head is off.

    This may explain an issue that I have with the new the top hose (BYG2770) being too short.
    BYG2770 has an internal size of 34mm to fit the neck on the radiator, and the bend is in the right place, so far so good. BUT the large-bore bit of the hose (39 mm to fit the thermostat cover) stops about 75mm short of where it should be.

    The original hose, which is longer as described above, was made by Mackays and has the number 32EE9K printed on it. The new (ie too short) hose is also a Mackay hose, but is printed with 34EE9K-2.

    Would someone please tell me the correct part number for the longer hose, and is it a Land Rover or an Isuzu item?
