Early 4BD1-T

The turbo drain is genuine - NA engines do not have the block drilled to suit the drain line. It also has a 4BD1T inlet manifold.

So although the 4BD1 block can be drilled and tapped for the 4BD1T drain, most people fitting a turbo to a 4BD1 use an easier method to add a drain line.

The cast number indicates an 85 production year.

BTW the cast '4BD1' on the left side is common to both 4BD1's and 4BD1T's.

Edit: it also has the 4BD1T oil separator for the crankcase breather.

It's just a theory of mine, but I think the external oil seperator was a necessary addition with the piston squirters. They create enough oil vapour that the simple breather setup in the likes of the non turbo 4BC2 couldn't cope.

I recall that Rovercare has a late model 4BD1 with the turbo drain (at least the boss) cast on the block.

It seems that ISUZU may have done some rationalisation of designs towards the end.

Virtually zero wear metals, it almost looks like virgin oil.
OK, it's running at a steady load, but still, these engines are bloody amazing and this one would last forever if it doesn't have some sort of catastrophic failure.

Nope, haven't been looking to be honest, too focussed on getting a large A/C job finished that I've been on for the last four/five weeks then getting onto the ones that have been waiting a few months ....:eek:

It's why I slapped the Tdi back together, just to get through the next few months.
I'm going to ask one of my customers to put out feelers, the bloke can find/source/acquire anything and he runs one or two 6BD1's too.
