I had exactly the same problem. I used a resistor which I think was 18 ohms to correct the reading. I'll check later on and get back to you.
Landrovers use 10v as the temperature gauge source, japanese cars use 5v and that's where the high reading is coming from.

If someone has a landrover part to avoid these shennanigans I'd probably buy it.

FWD at Fairfield or Zenith Engineering at Milton would probably have the correct part.

I think the part number sticky thread in this section has the correct LR part number. I did the same thing, and bought the V8 version from the same era that showed overtemp. Bought the other one, $18 or so and sorted.

My temp guage started reading too high, so I replaced both the guage and sender with VDO items.

Highly recommended.
