I had exactly the same problem. I used a resistor which I think was 18 ohms to correct the reading. I'll check later on and get back to you.
Landrovers use 10v as the temperature gauge source, japanese cars use 5v and that's where the high reading is coming from.
If someone has a landrover part to avoid these shennanigans I'd probably buy it.
