I just carry a spare filter in case I get crappy fuel, but am very selective where I buy it from, and if suspect run it through the filler extension, I always change the fuel filter every service too. Filters are cheaper than pumps and injectors.

anyone know the micron rating of primary fuel filter- also after fuel line ID - 8mm?
The Delphi 296 Cav filters are 5 micron.
I think the standard spin on Isuzu fuel filter is 10 or 15 micron.
5 micron filters will work but will block more quickly and bring you to a stop. So carry a few spares.
I hadn't seen a picture of this little item on the site, so for the benefit of those who haven't yet changed one, and all the new Perentie owners, this is what it looks like (complete with debris).

It screws inside the banjo bolt holding the fuel line onto the bottom of the transfer (lift) pump. The banjo bolt is on the underside almost directly under the hand pump.
A few hints about getting the banjo bolt in and out if you haven't done it; 17mm ring spanner, stuff rag in the engine mount or it will fall through the mount onto the ground, firstly when you are getting it out and then secondly when you are manoevering it in and it slips out of your fingers.
Probably a good idea to fit a new rubber coated washer (14/23mm) if you can get one.
That doesn't look pretty- mine was actually clean but as you say it's a PITA to remove and refit with engine mount in the way. I'm going to fit an inline filter before it so it's easier to remove.
I just got one of those aeroflow filters off ebay that you can unscrew and clean out. Rated at 30micron. Should do the trick.
