G'day All, Lokka the engine has over 500,000k's on it, regular oil changes usually at around the 5,000k mark on occassions it has been stretched to maybe 6,500 but not very often.
About 2 weeks ago, before I headed off to the New England area, I noted that the engine needed approx 1qt of oil, now this was the first time that I have ever put oil in the motor between changes (in 20 years of ownership), anyway coming home from that area, I noticed it was running warm, (in the middle of the temp guage, usually 1 notch off cold), but after crossing over the Liverpool range it dropped down to it's usual spot on the guage, it wasn't overly hot on the other side of the range either.
Then last Thursday, the noise like a sticking injector, only to find it wasn't a sticking injector, it twas the piston separating, anyway I have sent emails to various companies for a quote on engine rebuild kits, and have sent one to the US, ?? who knows if I will get any replies, anyway cheers Dennis:(
Genuine Isuzu kits are usually pretty reasonably priced and a decent amount less than individual parts so it might be worthwhile looking into those.
Usually you can buy parts "per cylinder" rather than having to get a whole set, which might be an option if everything else is OK and only the one pot is dead.
Standard big end bearings are dirt cheap, but the undersize ones are quite expensive (like 10x the standard price), so if you've got damage on the crank consider only grinding the damaged journal not the whole lot.

Sad to hear about the motor Dinty earlier this year I bought a genuine Isuzu complete engine rebuild kit from the local dealer here it cost just under $1300 it is good value considering that just a bearing set will set you back $500 for the OEM parts. As Blacknight has said the quoted price you put up seems a tad much.

G'day All,
Well I was supposed to work today, but my driver didn't front up, I can't drive and be next to my client, so I canned the days outing and went to Dungog (Modern Motors aka Rumbels) and took some happy :( snaps of the damage.,

I was surprised that the conrod was still in the bore, I had visions of it going around and damaging all manner of things, but it has (appears) only damaged the liner as you can see

and in this shot

here is what is left of No 1 piston,

and again

anyway before I can order n pay for any new parts I have to know what length my pistons are, No 1 is of no use to me, but what pix I have seen on the net, methinks mine are 104.2mm in length as against the other size of 98mm.
I did ask what type of engine parts (brand names) to stay away from, so when I find out what I need I will get them asap, many thanks for all the heads up on various bits etc all help greatly appreciatted, cheers Dennis:angel::(
G'day All, I am replacing all 4 pistons and liners, WHY should I fit the short skirt pistons, is there any advantages or disadvantages, as I only want to do this once;) well I'm not doing it but my bank balance is going to feel it:(, more information required please, cheers Dennis:angel:
