I know that with my 1951, they made the modifications from the 1949 that they already had and then put the 1950-51 in their catalogue. They even added the blinker wiring for me (correct to colour code).

With the county, my guess is that they would want an entire standard harness (dead) to replicate and add to the catalogue. From that they could then make the pattern for the 4BD1 engine harness to plug into the standard unit. More importantly, none of the UK suppliers have Land Rover 4BD1 harnesses.

I also know that if you tell them what you want they will add extra wires to your design before they wrap a harness. This could be headlight saver, spot-lamp or winch relay etc.

    Picking this one up again...

Is there anyone who has a wreck or is willing to rip it out or can leave their 110 at ringwood for a bit?

I don't think mine resembles the original enough to be of use..

What are people willing to pay? Who is genuinely interested? I've also contacted some other organisations.. we will see

    Hi
I am not far away from having the harness out of my 120 4bd1t, I was thinking of making a harness myself, but this would be a lot easier. would just have to label all the wires for them i suppose. it is a pretty original harness with no apparent butchering(that i have found yet), all other wires have been run separately.
what is the rough cost of a loom? being a poor student it could be a while before i can put my money on the table.
    cheers

Next week I'm taking out the engine loom and sending it to them - I'll know pricing soon after that.

I wish I had that new loom now

    Hi All

A weekend project started about two months ago, ( when Adam was a boy ) has drawn out till now.

The problem I struck with the wiring of this particular Land Rover ( late 2A ), besides the usual hacked about loom, is that the wiring colour codes subtly change with the upgrades that Land Rover have done, a few examples being, the addition of indicators, wind screen washers and the change in battery polarity. Land Rover then changed from generator to alternator.

I have printed out --- hang on I'll count them ---- ,---- , ---- Hmmm six pages all from different workshop manuals about the period of the build of this Land Rover .

At this point I should list the changes that have been done to this Landy,

The chassis and fire wall started life as a negative earth, six cylinder Aussie built LWB, about 1969.
So it had, a generator, head lights in the grill panel, a windscreen washer, twin fuel pumps near the hand brake mechanism, no heater, battery under the seat ----- I can go on -----, but for the voltage regulator for the fuel and temperature gauges, all of those other things have been changed along with a 186 Holden motor!!!!

Now the lights are in the guards, the radiator panel and grill are from a series three, does look tidy though with the paint colour fairly close to the original cream and the seat box has been changed to a series three out of a short wheel base. Why does that have any thing to do with the colours of the wiring you may ask?
A lot! as the battery was sitting on the passengers floor, because the seat box now hasn't a battery tray , so I proceeded to build a battery box back in the position that Land Rover used for the SWB.

I wired in a headlight relay, taking a fused feed direct from the battery, but all was in vain, the relay that the PO had gave me and said was good, wasn't!
So I pulled it out, scratched around and found another. . Then the old loom fought back, oh gloom, after hours of fiddling I found corrosion, things loose, dirty switch contacts and cut off wires which I still needed.
That was only the start! The wire colour codes were not a good match either.
Where am I at, well! the motor starts and runs, the headlights work brilliantly , the brake lights work, the battery is secure and the passenger floor is clear.
    .

Just a quick update to everyone..

I got sent away for work so it took me ages to get it out and sent off. Should have something soon...

Once I have an idea of the base cost.. I will see about the usual modifications like headlight relays etc.

OK... so.. its expensive. More than I originally imagined.. but I think it's worth it. PM me if you are interested.

The first one should arrive in a month or so (everything takes so long when people have to do it all by hand..) and I will try and get it in and tested ASAP. Once I know it all works then I'll give out the details.

This is for a full loom with the Isuzu engine harness and AC, based upon a late '86 chassis but with blade fuses. The engine loom will be available on its own so you can mix and match with other year model 110's or Defenders.

Do you know if the 4BD1 engine loom will mate to a V8 Defender loom?

I am hoping that the Defender V8 would be the same as a V8 County loom.
