I'd still be tempted to remove the centre to make sure there's no crunchy bits floating around inside the casing.

hope your replacement is new, not sure that i would install a second one as you never know what life it has had
Hi . I would second the idea of replacing the other axle as well. Some years ago I broke the front short axle in my Isuzu 110 trying to beat a fire up a ridge line and, lo and behold, six weeks later the other axle failed while doing a three point turn and under no great stress.Definitely worth considering. Cheers,130man.
I would replace both inner front axles with Ashcroft or Hitough 24 spline inner axles and an Airlocker or Trutrac. This allows retaining AEU2522 county CV's etc but upgrades the useless 10 spline 2 pin diff and inner matchstick axles. Not as exxy as you might think if using the trutrac option and it will then be a set and forget situation. It MIGHT even last as long as that 'wowful' truck engine....:D

Thanks for the help and info all. Its replaced now thanks to a Brissy member who was coming up this way and sold me his old ones he had replaced with 24 spline. If it or the other breaks again I might consider a swap too.
Its an ex Papua New Guinea truck, had a 2.5 TD in it and I stretched it and put the 4BD1 in about 15 yrs ago. So goodness knows what sort of a thrashing it had in its previous life. It does not get a lot spent on it as its mainly a farm truck and my limited funds go to S1,s or the 6x6.

I broke the same axle as you a few weeks back. While my budget is limited, I am upgrading at the same time.
Ashcroft have a geared torque biasing LSD thats cheaper than a tru-trac, mine has been shipped already. Tru tracs have 3 gears per side, the Ashcroft ATB has 6, so should be even more robust.
For axles I have gone with Rovertracks, came out to $450 landed.
