At the risk of stating the obvious, have you checked the tappets? Also, check for a loose exhaust manifold, leaking at one port.

A question for those that are knowledgable in the workings of the Isuzu.
My isuzu (4bd1) has developed an extra rattle. (I didn't know that was possible but anyway). It has me worried becaused it sounds like a little man with a hammer inside the engine, it goes tink, quite loudly. It is worst when it is cold but happens when it is hot too. It doesn't happen at all rpms that I can hear. I can make it worse by adding power, and it goes completely on overrun. My thought were that it was something to do with an injector because it only sounds like it is happening at the rate for 1 cylinder. What I don't know an injector that isn't spraying properly would make this noise or whether I should look else where.
As I am traveling at the moment and will be in Darwin tomorrow I thought I would ask so I could work out a plan.
Any suggestions apprectiated.
Cheers,
Dan.

Thanks for the suggestion JDNSW. I will have a look at the tappets. It definitely isn't an exhaust leak, checked that. The noise sounds like the rattle you get out of an diesel generator, like a kubota, on start up. Anyway I hope it is simple like the tappets.

Probably NOT the problem, but have a quick check of the air filter mounting brackets. I've seen them crack off and I could imagine that it could make some some strange noises that would change with RPM and power/overrun.

Yes - I agree with Steve, could be broken aircleaner bracket(s) - I have had this, although I would not describe the noise as a Tink, more a rattle.

If it is louder when its cold I would have thought it was an internal components, piston slap, and bearings at the worst and valve noise at the best. Larns a member on here and has a Isuzu lives in Darwin and is a mechanic if you get stuck.
Start with the valve adjustment
Another thing to check would be the exhaust clamp on the side of the starter motor. It will produce a metallic noise if it comes loose.
