FWIW - tonight I've just finished replacing the crush washers on the inlet pipe banjo fitting (the one with the gauze filter).
It had those aluminium washers with the bonded rubber seal in the middle, and while they were quite tight, weren't sealing. Have replaced them with copper crush washers - the narrow type as they take less torque to get them to seal.
Symptoms were:
1. Puddle on the driveway under the engine when parked nose down with a full tank
2. If left parked nose up on a hill it would die shortly after starting it and sometimes needed to be re-primed to get it going again.
3. Stuttering under extended high load/rpm.
Its definitely a fiddly job and I ended up buying a cheap set of stubby ROE spanners from Supercheap for $12, and grinding the edge of the 17mm one to do the job. My normal length spanners were either too long or too thick to get in properly.

Interesting. I have fuel starvation problem when nose is parked up hill. (sorry Stumpy if this is a hijack)
ok... it is still stoping !!! even more ! i have replaced the lift pump primer i have gotten rid of the pre filter and the pump next to it and replaced it with the CAV filter so what can it be ???? it does take forever to prime the lines and another question where would i get a bolt for the injector lines cause it snapped this arvo trying to get it working, had to tow it round the conner home with the old mans car.
Is the tank breather blocked? Rust blocking the pickup?
How about running it straight from a small tank - like a 2L bottle temporarily mounted in the engine bay with a hose connected to the lift pump inlet. Return can still go into the normal return line back to the tank.
That would at least isolate if its a tank/line issue or the engine end.

You have a blockage or sucking air somewhere as previous posters have been indicating, with some obvious but not all places to look - you need to check and eliminate all possibilities.
I understand that's a device fitted to V8's only to take overflow on extreme vehicle angles. Not fitted to Isuzu rovers.
