I currently own four 4BD1 engines.
the one in my registered Perentie is 235*** and looks brand new (see image): stamped low near the dipstick
another I pulled out of a Perentie today is 995*** stamped low
other Landy engine 903*** stamped high
truck engine 106*** stamped high
how can I find out about them, particularly if the block is drilled for the oil squirters?
Dropping the sump is the only way I know of to see if you have the piston squirters. All n/a truck engines I have seen have a machined flat area where the squirter should be but no actual drilling into the gallery. 4X4 Perentie (industrial type engines) don't seem to have it.
Are all the Perentie industrial motors?
Why would they be fitted with the timing cover for the power steering pump when many truck engines weren't? (the 106*** engine doesn't have the PAS timing cover)
Apparently so. Quessing the truck motor is an early one without the accoustic cover. No idea why some industrial motors have provision for p/s and some don't but hazard a guess that it was a manufacturing date related thing.
As Brian says. However one external indicator may be if any of them have the turbo drain area on the block machined drilled and tapped. Rovercare bought an NA engine like that, not sure if it had the squirters though.
I've heard of some late N/A motors having the squirter holes drilled into the oil gallery but then fitted with a blanking plug. Was sort of hoping the 99**** engine out of the Perentie may be one, but wanted to keep the sump on till I have the parts.
Ben where is the turbo oil drain in the T engines. am imagining somewhere near the dipstick>
