That is a 6BB1, which is basically a 4BB1 with 2 extra cylinders (same goes for a 6BD1)

EDIT - btw - that looks like a Series 3, not a defender. If the adaptor is designed to fit in place of a 200tdi, then it will bolt to an LT77(S). With one or two very minor mods it will bolt to a series box, and wth a couple more mods it should bolt to an R380 or ZF auto.

Not sure if I would trust any of those boxes behind it though! Torque pulses wuld be smoother than a 4BX1, but peak torqu would be huge, and from very low rpm.

The 6BB1's are a very smooth and sweet engine. We have one in a digger here, at around 2000rpm it's almost big electric motor smooth.

Big engine for a series though.

Not really. The landie in the pic is a stage 1, which basically has the same axles as a 110 county. I am already running the same axles in my IIA. The only weak point is the front CW&P and the 10-spline inners. Shove an Ashcroft CW&P and some aftermarket halfshafts in (or better yet a front sals) and you are done.

The series t-case can hold up to big V8s. (However fitting an LT230 would be a doddle).

Only the engine and gearbox would end up non LR (even non-series LR)

I thought that was the Canadian one. There is a 6BT landrover owner on IH8MUD, but there are no landrover parts in the drivetrain.

Maybe in that case, but my point is it doesn't need to be that way. kits are available to upgrade Sals axles to 35 spline 1.5" halfshafts. LT230s or even series t-cases should be strong enough. There aren'tmany components that are an essential upgrade.

Was at the national 4wd gathering at Mitta Mitta. There was also a county there with a 6cyl turbo Isuzu diesel. Was if I remember rightly a motor sourced from the military? As you would expect, it went like a cut cat.

in the uk a few guys put 6bt s in and they put 101 diffs up front !

also i think that Canadian one has 60 series diffs in it and he has nothing but problems with the e lockers falling out :) now that is grunt!!

6bt with Volvo c303 diffs would be the go!

According to one sight, I cant remember which 1, the 6BD1T weighs in at around 450kg! A 4BD1T is a hefty 340kg I strengthend my front housing due to bending driving through a washout, about 8" deep and 12" wide, at 90kmh! I did have negative negative camber for a while!
