I knew him when he was young and lived not too far away, his brother was a friend.

I was told that the 120" came about because it was deemed that a "full size" tray could not be fitted to a 110.
AFAIK it was available with 4BD1 (no V8) and no PS.
There are several 1984 model 120's available. It was likely developed concurrently with the 127" - Jaguar Rover Australia has a lot of autonomy at the time.
Thanks everyone so far. Being a child of the mid 80s it is hard to tell what the competition really was back then...most being rusted back into the dirt by now whilst the 110 is still produced :)
Ben do you mean 1994 or 1984?
do you mean 1984???
I have also heard the same Ben. I know that when Mal Story made his own chassis for coil conversions, he made them a 118 WB. These were designed to have a SIII 109 driven in and converted over to his chassis, running a coil rover front housing, a MD special Sals rear. SIII cab etc went in to it. When I asked him about the WB he chose, He stated that it would allow for a full size tray.
What ever the story is, my shed will not be complete until there is one in it.
(or more accurately parked outside, around the corner so SWMBO doesn't notice it until it has been there for ages and I can safely say "Na babe, its been here for years - it can't be that bad if you havn't even noticed until now!!:angel:)
I thought the 120 was bought about for the 5th wheeler conversion that was done for an aniversary....
The fifth wheelers were V8 110 Countys with the rear chopped to make a style side ute. Quite dissimilar outcomes between the two vehicles.
If you mean the Aus 110 crew cab, I believe there only a few (3 or so) of those made back in the 80's
