There are rumours floating around that the TD04 turbo like the one from your 4BG1T is related to the Holset HE221 which is getting rave reviews as a fast spooling single turbo with a decent boost capacity.

The HE221 is from the 170hp Cummins ISB engine. Basically the last iteration of the 3.9 litre 4BT. Later models gained capacity.

Good info you have there Dougal ... Thanks heaps once again... I was going to send you an email yesterday but got sidetracked.
I'm wondering if the TD04 used in conjunction with the large turbo I have may be an option :angel: however the TD04 is non wastegated so may prove to be a concern.
Unfortunately I have not touch the rover in ages due to Christmas etc etc and the place that has my crank has still not checked it out :mad:

I am new to this MHI turbo game, but I think you've got:
The same TH04HL turbine as the Holset HE221.
A 15T compressor wheel (42mm intake, 56mm OD) which is good for about 32 lb/min (similar to garrett T28 even though it's a bit smaller)
12cm exhaust housing, which is on the larger side.

You'd likely need a smaller exhaust housing to get acceleration response from it, the Holset uses a 6cm housing (half the size).

It is a good idea to balance the rod and piston sets.

Interesting...you pointed out previously that the BG will likely be sitting on say 10psi at what amount of revs ?

I got quoted $330ea :eek:

Got a place lined up to balance everything unfortunately that in itself has been a mission finding someone that isn't trying to rip me off by doing SFA and charging me top dollar :mad:

If you can find someone with an accurate balance - either a drug dealer :D or university research lab, you can do the pistons and rods yourself and save money, then you just need to get the crank done (but it should be OK as-is).

If you were in WA I have a balance you could use.

Even good kitchen scales may do the job???

I just used to use a digi scale.

Rods can be a little tricky without someone experienced to guide you.

haha well luckily theres drug dealers everywhere over here in cessnock....
thanks for the offer ben wish i was in WA so you could teach me some things..
i have a digital set of scales that are quite acurate from what i can gather maybe i could do the reciprocating bits with ? (so some people dont get confused were not talking about a digital set of scales found in bathrooms)

i am unsure as to the location to remove material from rods as not to cause stress related issues....

rick may be able to give us a run down :):)
