    Will a 4BD1T fit in a defender?

Hi, been doing a bit more research on my 130 defender conversion, and just had a run in with a very abrupt diesel mechanic who tells me there is no way a factory 4BD1T will fit in a defender as the turbo will be in the way of the heater box and air con system. Is this a fact or is he full of sh#* like I think?
They sell complete import jap motors but think they sound a bit expensive, might just buy a complete truck instead, will get gear box too and be able to test drive it. How much should you pay for a 4BD1T? Cheers.

Thanks, I know it will fit, its just when you have a so called expert tell you like You're an idiot for even thinking about fitting the motor it puts a bit of doubt in. He said " no way it'll fit.... I've been a diesel mechanic for 87(?) years and worked on defenders and are telling you the only way it will fit is to rip out the heater box and AC system cos the turbo is in the way, we had a defender here last week and we looked at it and no way it will fit, bla bla bla....".
So thought I better make sure a factory turbo has been fitted to a defender, cheers.

Theres enough room in the stripped engine bay to shoe horn in a detroit 6v53. the trans hoookup and exhaust routing would be entertaining to actually do but the engine fits in.

I've seen a new Chinese copy of a 4BD1T that had a turbo and cross over pipe that sat much higher than any variation of the Isuzu 4BD1T. So the Chinese version wouldn't fit without changing those bits over. Otherwise as stated - fits fine.

A 4bd1t ? Make it a little more interesting and fit a 6bd t. Have seen one in the flesh. If I remember correctly it was ex military motor, pomy I think. Certainly went well.

    6bd1t

    A 4BD1T weighs 340kg, a 6BD1t weighs 450kg! They came out of FSR trucks.
