there seems to be a few on alibaba direct from chinese manufacturers. Anyone bought one of these? What is the quality like?
I am guessing they bought the design and tools from isuzu or something?

There is a lot of discussion about the Chinese ones but in my opinion no they are no good and there quality is nothing like the originals...the originals are no longer in production they stopped being produced in late 90's early 2000's but still then they were for other uses not for trucks...(that's from what I have read wether it's true or not I don't know) I have came across a few 92 model engines for sale in qld area at one stage...Example Chinese bearings compared to Japanese bearings I know which I'd rather so same for motors...

Yeah there is certainly an element of risk with the china ones and possible build quality issues, they could end up being just as reliable, or could not. To remove the reliabilty from the 4BD1 is kind of taking away one of its best attributes...

So this would be the way forward. Is it a case of waiting for a second hand bellhousing coming available?

I'm not to sure on lt95's and there associated matching parts but I will be selling my lt85 full box,lt85 in bits, starter motor and flywheel housing soon.....the main reasons why John would be suggesting the later model engine is I assume due to a few reasons main ones being cam and fuel system...

What is the deal with the 'brand new' 4BD1-T's advertised? Are they still in production?

eg 4BD1 Turbo - Queensland Motor Recyclers
Chinese copies, if they are the same as the ones I looked at previously. I would go genuine, personally.

EDIT: says Isuzu on the page so I could be wrong. I don't remember the nam of the company selling copies before but it would be worth asking about.
    Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
