    I just got a piece of allo pipe tigged in the factory rocker cover, then made up a baffle

    Hi Rovercare,

    My initial intention was to plumb the rocker vent to the compressor inlet ducting. Assuming crank gasses don't increase massively (I only want 100hp) then I would expect it to be fine. Otherwise $40 eBay catch can. Besides, I used mild steel pipe for the inlet ducting, need to keep it rust free some how!

    I am always open to suggestions though, that's why I'm here

    Much simpler plumbing, much less blowby. The isuzu T4BD1T breather setup (i.e. a single breather from the tappet cover) is the same as used by all modern TDs.

    POS catch cans are not designed for TDs - which produce much smaller droplets than petrol or NA diesel engines.

    I use a Provent - as do others.

    There are a couple of threads on Provent install but none of them seem to show the end product. Do they hold the oil for draining, or where do people drain them to the sump. I was still using the side cover breather but its making a mess so will buy a provent. The breather on the tappet cover does not emit anything so left it there with a little plastic fuel filter stuck in it and cable tied to the inlet manifold so I can see what it does.

    At the moment my Provent vents to atmosphere and the drain goes to a sealed container. However that is just because I am using it for research and need to collect oil samples and connect telemetry up to it regularly, etc...

    It is best to plumb the drain to the sump (just like your turbo) and the air outlet to the intake.

    Tell me about your research and "telemetry", sound like you have remote sensors connected to your Provent?

    Oh, Also, why is the Provent a better product than a POS catch can? (there are a lot of catch can varieties on the market)

    And, you'll be pleased to hear that I popped a extra hole in my oil filter spacer (bypass housing) today. Just incase the N/A crank vent system fails, I'll have a spare drain to sump port for the separator drain.

    Hi Tristan,

    I have a research project with MANN+HUMMEL (MANN Filter) to optimise the performance of their crankcase filter systems (e.g. Provent). It has been lots of work over >4 years, so a bit too much to explain here, however if you search I have posted some results.

    As for the catch cans, it would take a few pages and lots of maths to explain properly. In stort, you would need a catch can the size of your entire engine bay to work as well as a mediocre filter.

    Hi,

    I will do a search over the weekend for your results, always enjoy learning something new.

    At this point I won't be rushing out to buy a Provent though, not saying I never will! Just yet to understand why a system that has worked well for me in other applications and is essentially OEM for the 4BD1T (Oil vapour recovery system) won't work again.

    Besides, it might just mean I get a few more hours in the shed
