Ratios are 1.003 for the Lt230 and 3.0 for the 9"
What are the four bolts on the front diff gear housing for?
i like your work, but wonder about the angle that your front drive shaft will be running at.
It looks like you have pointed the pinion up nicely, but I would think that the uni-joint at the transfer case will still have a hard time, especially if it still is the stock rover companion flange and uni - they don't like much angle. I recall seeing a pic, but can't remember from who (perhaps from yourself) where the companion flange on the LT230 was replaced with the same type of yoke as on your 9" diffs. That would help a lot but even better would be to convert the LT230 to part time 4wd so the shaft is not being driven when used on road.
Good to see all the good solutions to LR issues coming from your part of the world![]()
CV joint on the driveshaft?
Thanks for the comments The 4bolts are thru bolts for CP bearing caps The original plan whas a 4bd1t a Richmond 5 speed direct in 5th 3.0 diffs 1.003 TC
Detroit locker in rear Trutrac in front. Due to the attitude of most engine
sellers in Aus I finished up buying a 4he1t from the USA. With the increase in
torque available and derating the Richmond due to 4.0- 1 first gear I decided
the Richmond (old Doug Nash design} would be overstressed . The purchase of a MXA 5R on ebay for $1.05 sealed the change of planThe diff angle we
will have to blame on LR as all measurements and angles are taken of the original housing . Seemed a bit to much at the time but LR sometimes get
things rightThe rear tail shaft is 1350 series while the front is 1310
both with u bolt yokes .Tyres will be 265 75 16 on 7 or 8"rims have yet to
source The gear box I suspect will be only used as a 4 speed except in Low range .Time will tell Big down hill no cops a tailwind and that Turbo Dougal
suggestedThe Lt230 Quaife tbd would be wasted in 2WD. It has taken
nearly as long to write this as it took to do the work![]()
