    Whinge Warning

Well , the love affair is officially over I think

The County let me down big time on the weekend in the Wonnagatta Valley and I had to get towed out by a fellow new LROCV member all the way to Myrtleford. Very interesting experience that

On the way in at about the 70% stage it did exhibit a very strange catching sensation in the driveline but I put it down to the handbrake or something simple.

Luckily while still in camp and just about to head out , I had only driven 30ft when " CLUNK" it came to a grinding halt.

We jacked him up at the rear and the front and both diffs seemed to be okay.

The handbrake drum was not bound up.

Took off both prop shafts and dragged him out.

We think it's the transfer case but have not had time for a proper investigation. That will happen during next week. This weeekend is get the Stage One starter fitted so I can tow the County to the repair joint

This is a real shame because the County has no rust in it , has very nice seats fitted , is really clean and tidy , has had an engine overhaul and heaps spent on it by the PO with new radiatior and fuel pump and power steer pump , yaddah , yaddah , yaddah. It also has D Gas fitted and goes like a train. I have put about $ 13k into the County over the last 18 months with new Bilstein shocks , new HD clutch , noise proofing , new Centre Diff Lock actuator , brand new BFG KM2's , tubeless Wolf Rims , heaps of LED lighting , all rust repaired etc , etc , etc. The list goes on.
Yes I know should have put those $ into a driveline overhaul

This incident and the fact it doesn't have a heater or aircond also makes it a bugbear with the family on board on trips.

I will get the TC fixed 100% and you may see it for sale on ebay soon with a complete and honest description

It is probably time for it to go to someone who will continue to love it despite it's characteristic flaws

Nah - the love affair isn't over. You've just had a slap round the nuts for not treating it with respect
They aren't meant to be pretty, or rust free - but should always be indestructible. Transfer case is one of the few areas that will stop you dead so should be real high up on the spend list.

Sort out the transfer and drive it some more.....
Its November now, so I expect to see the "I love my Isuzu County" post by Christmas

gaaah mate I feel for you. It's so annoying when you've spent all the money on the good stuff and the one thing you didn't replace makes the bang noise.

When this happened to me I decided I was already in to deep. Clearly the answer to spending too much was to spend more and 'finish the job'.

If only I could have two you would already have a PM

    We'll see Steve, we'll see
I did see a really nice video on Thurs night of 3 great Isuzus up in Cape York and the heart skipped a beat
The other problem was , that up until this failure , the g'box and TC have not exhibited any signs of problems or made any undue noises?

Thanks Flagg , you may be right.

    On top of the TC rebuild will probably be;

Have to fit some sort of good aircond and a Defender heater to maximise cooling and cabin pressurisation. A new LROCV member just down from QLD has fitted an old Transit van console to the rear of his and he just about freezes when it's running on 1

Fix leak on RHS front swivel joint.

Full brake reline and wheel cylinders?

We're still not on speaking terms yet.
He's across the road on the nature strip sulking.
After I fix the Stage One starter I might go across and clean all the dust off and degrease some bits and see how I feel

    Hi
Had that problem with a RRC

It was the centre diff in the transfer box.

Locked up solid , not fun when one minute doing 60ks and the next all four wheels lock up with out warning.

Had to take off both props so I could move it.

Certainly sounds like a centre diff to me, a relatively easy fix in the LT95 and can be done with trans in situ.

These gearboxes are 1950's tech, and built like blocks of concrete

You'll love it again after its fixed

    Wink

If it's the center diff, send it off to JackMac Jack McNamara - Differential Specialists for replacement with his one piece unit , it's a much better, stronger design. He does an excellent, professional job, and he's great for a yarn too.

This is what I did, was one of the first things i did. He also supplied different (stronger) washes. I then gave them to the guys who rebuilt it for me.

    Steve,
I bought one ( centre diff 1 piece cross shaft assembly) recently from him. Cost was $220 inc GST. It fits both LT95 and LT230 centre diffs as they both share the same cross shafts. When you consider the standard genuine ones cost over $100 each it is good value and a lot stronger
