Also, is 'interchangability' a word or did i make that up?
In my search for a 4bd1 I have come across a cheap LR with the 4bd1 + after market turbo that might make a good proposition for taking the engine and parting the rest.
The 4db1 in the donor car is mated to an LT85, i need to retain the LT95 (currently mated to the 302 V8) already in my car. Does anyone know it this is a straight swap over using the bits from the donor car or will i need other parts? If so, what?
thanks for the help,
Dave

The bellhousing is different, and will be the biggest hurdle once you have an engine, unless the V8 uses the original bellhousing.
Since the V8 is a 302, not a Rover engine, it could have any manner of adaptation I would have thought, but I know as much about V8s as I do toyotas...
Jitterbugs was originally an isuzu wasn't it?
With help from bearman we have a positive id on the 4bd1 to lt95 bellhousing. There is then an adaptor plate between that and the 302.
Next question, does it have to be a LR 4BD1 or will any 4bd1 mate up to the bellhousing?
Dave, It is preferable (and usually cheaper) to get a motor that has come out of a LR as it will have the correct ancillaries : flywheel housing, flywheel, spigot bush assembly, clutch, starter, alternator and engine mounts. The truck motors in Aus had 24V electrics and different mounts as well as a different flywheel housing that won't bolt to the gearbox you have and believe it or not a different flywheel so there are a lot of things you have to change if you get a truck motor. Better to find one that has it all on as some of those bits are expensive to buy.
