    Gauges

    Hi,

This has probably been answered before, but I am looking to install VDO oil pressure and water temperature gauges onto a na 4bd1 could you tell me what the thread sizes are used for senders. Part numbers would also be handy.
Thinking of electric gauges unless there is a reason mechanical type would be better

    Cheers

I'm looking at oil pressure and oil temp senders at the moment and will probably work out the threads in a couple of weeks. I'm also looking for a pressure sender that will feed a gauge and set off the idiot light on the dash when pressure drops too low. I'll post another reply if I can find one.

Did this in the tdi a couple of years ago, but the principle is the same. I made up a Y-piece that screwed into the engine block, and screwed the sender for the gauge and the sender for the oil light into the Y-piece. It's easier to source the individual senders than a combo unit, and if the gauge fails, the idiot light still works.

Mike, I've been speaking to a couple of people about this approach, including an instrument specialist. They say that hanging a couple of senders off a Y or T piece may cause it to fatigue and maybe break, especially on an Isuzu and/or extended rough road use.

In any case I've now been told that VDO don't make a combined sender and switch unit to suit the gauge I've bought. I'll work something out eventually.

Dave I have had my oil pressure gauge line and sender for the idiot light hanging from a T piece union for nearly 20 years now and have subjected it to some extreme road conditions up the Cape and Gulf country and no sign of fatigue yet. Pretty sure it's a brass one as well, so I don't think you will have any problem if you go that way. The pressure gauge is a VDO capillary (mechanical) one and the sender for the warning light is the standard truck one which is smaller than the one LR have.

Since I can't see if this has been ever really answered.

The coolant sender is M16x1.5 I used VDO part number 323-417 and it fits well and is a good length for the housing.

I believe the oil pressure switch is M10x1.0, but will confirm when I get to that one.
