    RRC Radiator in Defender??

AS a few of you know, (and have offered to help with), I'll be dropping an Isuzu engine into my defender in the next couple of weeks, donored out from a Range Rover Classic.

The plan is to obviously use as much of the RRC components as possible, but I have a question about the radiator. Is it possible to fit a RRC radiator into a Defender? I've checked online, and have found conflicting answers as to whether it's possible or not. One site suggests that by simply cutting and relocating a few of the radiator tabs it will fit into a Defender just fine, others say it's not possible.

Has anyone here tried it before? Or am I looking at picking up a V8 Radiator and changing the inlets and outlets???

Mike, here's a photo of what I believe are RRC(top) and County V8 radiators.

    Rangie 795mm wide
    County 760mm wide

The converted ex-ebay V8 one thats in my County is around 750mm wide, so there's obviously a bit of variation.
The gap between the front guards is 785mm so the RRC one I have here definitely wont fit in mine...

The other thing to consider is that the County one has the mounting pins top and bottom that match what's in your defender. Even if you found the one from the rangie fitted between your guards you'd still have to stuff around with mounts.

Cheapest/easiest way to get rolling would be to find someone with a County V8 radiator that doesn't leak, and getting the inlet/outlet swapped.

Thanks for that Steve - it's a bit frustrating not having both vehicles in front of me and being able to whip out the measuring tape. Figured it would be as much with the radiators not matching up.

Second question is, are the defender and disco V8 radiators the same?? Again, the interwebs is giving me mixed answers, but the reason I ask is that I'm pretty sure I spotted a few v8 Discos when I was in Imlachs Auto Wreckers a while back.....

Disco and rr won't fit, why not just use your existing rad and intercooler?

Did you get hold of the guy for pick up ok?

Was told that the shorter 300tdi radiator had issues cooling the 4BD1.

Sorry, should have dropped you a line - got a hold of the guy, no worries, will be picking the RR up from his place when I get back. Think he was more amused by the whole thing than anything else

You can make a V8 Rangie rad fit in a Defender, but it means cutting some fairly hefty chunks out of the wings (the bit the 'slam panel bolts to) which works if you're doing it on the cheap, but isn't the ideal by any means.

A 4 core Tdi rad is more than man enough to keep a V8 over cool in the UK summertime, although I do realise Aus is that bit warmer.

A Td5 rad and intercooler might be a good way to go?

Let me fix your quote DLRM,

"A 4 core Tdi rad is more than man enough to keep a V8 over cool in the UK summertime, although in Australia it is flat strapped keeping a tdi under control when the going gets hot..."
