On the topic of low vaccuum.
My county has an extra vaccuum tank standard and when I fitted the rear Maxi diff lock the kit came with another vaccuum tank.I don't know the how well the vaccuum pump on the alt. works,you system may benifit from the addition of another tank.

Re your "dodgy" master cylinder,I read that when you removed the pipes and sealed the outlets with bolts the pedal stayed up,that would suggest the M/Cly to be OK.

Answering your question, yes the master, Slave brake circuits were bled as described in the manual.

When we took the 4BD1 out of the donor Landie there was no vacuum tank, I had a good talk with Brian at Land Vehicle Spares last Saturday, he recons we don't need it, After all we've been driving it since 2008 without problem, we have around 25 in(Hg), I believe 20 in(Hg) is the normal range.

Brian disregarded the test with the bolts, he still thinks it's a dodgy master cylinder.

We picked up the replacement Master cylinder this afternoon, when I am home long enough and it isn't raining I'll swap it in (no garage or carport).
