Coolant Reservoir plumbing??

Steve, thanks for the info - I was reasonably certain that I'd seen a second hose in your setup too. Looked at some photos of the rangie setup and it has more or less the same set up as yours. The owner had tapped barb into the thermostat cover (which had unfortunately rotted out - brass fittings and die cast meal react with each other), and ran a line into that. My thermostat housing doesn't have a second port for a connection (there seems to be different styles of thermostat housings) and I don't want to tap into the top cover for the reasons mentioned above.

I'm thinking of cutting the bottom radiator hose and making a t piece similar to the 300tdi setup. Don't exactly relish the thought of cutting up expensive hoses, but it solves my reservoir problem, and solves the problem that my bottom hose is slightly too long due to me shifting the radiator back 35mm. Any drawbacks to my solution before I put knife to rubber?

the isuzu has an expansion tank

the tdix00 has a surge tank.

The difference is that in the isuzu the coolant in the tank is more or less stationary and you cant fill the whole system from the tank cap. The tdi the coolant flows through the tank and you can fill the whole system through the tank cap.

to use a tdi surge tank in on a suzi connect the fitting on the radiator (or the optional one from the block or the optional one from the thermostat housing) to the lowest fitting on the tdi expansion tank and then block all other ports on the tdi expansion tank.

You cant easily use an isuzu expansion tank on an tdi as the flow from the thermostat housing to the surge tank helps ensure that in cold weather there is some flow past the thermostat and the oil cooler in the radiator to help maintain coolant flow in freezing conditions preventing the engine from over heating because the radiator is still frozen solid.
