Steve, thanks for the info - I was reasonably certain that I'd seen a second hose in your setup too. Looked at some photos of the rangie setup and it has more or less the same set up as yours. The owner had tapped barb into the thermostat cover (which had unfortunately rotted out - brass fittings and die cast meal react with each other), and ran a line into that. My thermostat housing doesn't have a second port for a connection (there seems to be different styles of thermostat housings) and I don't want to tap into the top cover for the reasons mentioned above.
I'm thinking of cutting the bottom radiator hose and making a t piece similar to the 300tdi setup. Don't exactly relish the thought of cutting up expensive hoses, but it solves my reservoir problem, and solves the problem that my bottom hose is slightly too long due to me shifting the radiator back 35mm. Any drawbacks to my solution before I put knife to rubber?
