these 1960's tech engines are very happy on 'basic' oils. i would be happy using a rimula, rx super, valv super diesel, bp vannelus etc etc all in a 15w40. iirc my engine saw 15w30 agricastrol for the first 420,000km of its life, never seen a cleaner crankcase at such high miles!

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40
Hi all,
This is the first oil change im going to be doing on this truck since ive had it (less than a month :P), so ive no idea when it was last done.
What can you recommend, Fully synthetic/part or mineral? 15w/40 or anything else?
Car currently starts fine but blows a bit of white smoke until warmed up, then idles with no smoke, and blows black smoke when hard accelerating :)

Most of us use a 15W40 in RX Super or similar. As JC said above, it doesn't really matter as long as the oil is the right sort of weight, and there is enough in there.

Ok, cant get that stuff over there, but Castrol is damn good oil, would you go for semi/fully synthetic?
If you have good filtration to remove fine soot particles, such as a 2 micron bypass filter or a centrifuge, and you have the oil analysed, then synthetics can pay off through extended oil changes and reduced wear.
I don't know if this answers the questions from your posts, because if I assume you read the earlier posts, then I am grasping at straws to understand what you are asking :(
