FWIW I am running Dobinsons C51-015 240lb springs in the front of my Df 110 - $BD1t + Winch and bar. A tad firm empty but pretty good when fully loaded. By my calculations 225lb would optimum for a loaded 110 with an Isuzu. I have tried some 200lb fronts but they were too soft - found the bump stops too often. I hope to get some custom Dobinsons made soo for both front and rear

I have 130 springs (NRC9448/9449 - 225lbs I think) in the front and was concerned they are sagged.
The spring ride height is 10" and the bump stop clearance is about 2".
The free standing height was about 380mm or 15" when I put them in a few years ago.
I was concerned about the limited bump stop clearance, particularly as I will be fitting a PTO winch sometime in the future.
What specs in a front spring should I be considering? Or should I just leave it alone? I would probably like it to sit about 1" higher after the winch is fitted but no more.

15" 225lb springs compressed to 10" would mean "(15-10)*225*2=) 2250kg or about 1 ton resting on them.Quote:

60kg (guessing) worth of PTO winch will compress them another 0.3 inches.
If you like the ride but want 1" more height, then get springs the same rate but 1.3" longer. Or as close as you can and just use spacers to make the height.

Thanks to Lokka and Steveg. :):D We have tried three sets of front springs in the front of the 120 including a set of ome from a 110 tdi that sat at well over 100mm, in the 120 they sat at 35mm bump stop clearance. The 120 has an Isuzu with a steel arb winch bar, high mount winch, cibie super Oscars and a uhf aerial mount and snorkel and chequer plate guards.
Just put in a set of dual rate disco one rear springs with 17mm coil cross section and 425 mm length and it has lifted it to about 90 mm bump stop clearance - oh happy days :):D:cool: the lower rate on the coils is fully compressed but they ride fine and seem to flex ok in a rocky hillclimb, the stance of the rover is greatly improved. I look forward to putting some mileage on them to get a better feel for them.

Mark, is that 90mm to extended bumpstops, or standard?
If its on extended then I reckon you'll have bugger all caster if you haven't already corrected for it (and slotted swivels are a wonderful thing :) ).
FWIW, I'm pretty sure the Dobinsons I have on the front of mine are 17mm wire like the ones you've just fitted (but mine are linear).

Steve that is to standard bump stops mate.:):D
I think the linear would be better and give more clearance as the lower rate coils are compressed onto each other but the higher rates are fine. After 4 sets of front springs changes I am loath to change them again, especially as I look like having to put the 550lb back into the back for the trip to Bamaga :):D:cool:

I've got 400lb springs in the back of the 110. I reckon I'd be scared about carrying so much stuff that things would break if I needed 550's :eek:

Its easy to get them to move Steve, you just need 3 blokes averaging about 110kg to jump up and down on the tray near the back :):D
And they have nothing to do with the chassis cracking in front of the rear wheel arch :angel:
I am moving and I think I may have a wee load on the poor old thing, I guess I will have the car trailer on the back too, it has 3000kg springs too
